Kill Bill Vol 2 – 500 Word Essay

The scene starts with the camera tracking back while following the woman walking out of the building the background is not in focus on this Focuses us on to look at the woman foreshadowing that the future events will involve her. The shot then changes direction and shows a point of view shot which is stationary to show there is something outside the building the character has seen that we have missed. It then becomes a mid shot of the character with a shocked look on her face which reinforces  the idea that she has seen something outside. The shot becomes a forward tracking and we can only see the characters back which leaves the audience in suspense as she will see before us what is outside of the building as we already know it must have some significance from the previous camera shots and her reaction. This tracking is slow to build up the tension even more and it becomes an establishing shot as we just see the characters silhouette looking at something to the left of her which builds up the tension even more as the audience want to know what it is.

The shot changes and we our now outside and a low angle shot reveals a man in the right hand corner. The low angle shot suggests he has power and is a dominant character as we are looking up to him as if he has a higher status than us. This also tells us that these two characters have some history as she looked shocked to see him and doesn’t go up to greet him, she also stays on the left hand side opposite him which tells us that there is tension and they are not friends or she is scared of him as she keeps her distance. We then are shown a close up of her face when she turns around to look at him this tells us the director wants us to see her facial expressions that show she isn’t pleased to see him reinforcing that idea of history and tension. We are then shown a close up of him and he is turned the other way showing him to be rude for not looking at her. As the music speeds up the shot switches between the two characters close ups which creates tension not only for the characters but for the audience as we anxiously await the first Diegetic sounds. This continues until the male character finally turns his head and looks at her as the music stops.

In a point of view shot we see her smirking in the distance as she finally speaks breaking the ice and tension between the character’s and the audience as she starts a conversation. The shot makes us feel more comfortable as it’s more natural as we are seeing something from a humans point of view. He then replies which clarifies there is now a conversation and reinforces the audience feeling more comfortable as it releases the tension and conversations are normal to us and part of our everyday life.
